Authentic Movement is a simple self-directed movement practice. It was originally developed by Mary Starks Whitehouse in the 1950s as a therapeutic modality, but it is not practiced here as dance therapy. Authentic Movement can be a challenging and edifying practice for individuals with an extensive dance history who are interested in composition or improvisation, individauls whose work is primarily in other artistic mediums, and individuals who want to dip their toes into embodied practices or somatics. No dance experience is necessary to participate.
