Contact Improvisation is a practice that involves using physics to create imaginative partner dances. Rather than attempting to exact a specific form or aesthetic, practitioners of Contact Improvisation use their felt sense to explore possibilities when dancing together, often sharing centers of gravity. This class will dive into the fundamentals of Contact Improvisation, training up athleticism, sensitivity to physical structure, and open channels of communication. This class is facilitated from a queer lens and, therefore, prioritizes rigorous consent. As we move together, we seek to stay aware of the many ways our unspoken assumptions can impact collaborative dynamics. We strive to release unhelpful assumptions by regularly asking questions about each other’s experiences in good faith.
