Queer Contemporary is a rigorous class that explores nuanced patterns of movement, drawing on contemporary floor work and axis syllabus. Here queerness = being unwilling and/or unable to uphold the lineages of status quo, carving out alternatives, not becoming too reliant on assumptions about identity and capacity, asking questions, and tapping into bodymind as a way to tap into conscience. Class will start with a standing warmup, where we practice weight shifts and seek a sense of ease and integrity in our structures. We will move to the floor for drills and end with phrase work. Bring socks!
